Middle Left: I wrote the word 'Joyful'* in my own handwritten script, using a paint pen

and going over it several times to build up the thickness.
I free-handed mine, but you could certainly use a stencil or tracing to do the lettering.
Middle Right: I used a thin paint wash in a brown color to add a shadow behind the script,
to give it dimension and make it visually POP off of the paper.

*I chose the word 'Joyful' because it's our word of the year,
but it also ties into our Holiday theme this year: 'Tidings of Comfort and Joy'
It now hangs in our entryway, over the funky antique porch post coat rack that I made:
...and it hangs from some rough twine on the back,
on a unique hook: that's a vintage wood thread spool over a big rusty washer!
It's the perfect finishing touch to welcome guests to our home
Yes, our entryway still has orange in it, even for the holidays - it's such a cheerful color!
